NSWMC E&C Conf

The theme of this year’s NSW Minerals Council Environment and Community Conference was Changing Times: Take the Lead.

Novecom was one of the trade exhibitors, and welcomed the opportunity to talk to delegates about leading practices for environmental and community management using the SentineX platform.

Presentations topics included:

  • Best practice rehabilitation and land management
  • Blasting and noise management
  • Community engagement and fostering better relationships

Of particular interest was the govt’s reaction to recent environmental incidents. This appears to be driving a requirement for greater transparency in the provision of environmental information to the community.

Congratulations to:
Peabody Energy - Metropolitan Coal and Newcrest Mining - Cadia Valley operations for their equal 1st place in The Excellence Awards.
Shaun Smith of Cockatoo Coal Ltd for being the lucky visitor to the Novecom stand. He won a remote control car - just in time for Xmas.

News and Events
Happy Birthday Novecom
It’s been a year since Novecom relocated to The Advitech Group Headquarters and began operating in earnest. The Novecom team celebrated their birthday in style and reflected on their achievements, which included the release of a portable dust monitoring system and the SX automatic weather station, as well as the release of a new version of the SX platform.

Monitor It - Don’t Miss It
A dust monitoring forum was held in Singleton in July for mining personnel interested in continuous environmental monitoring.

Attendees travelled from Mudgee, Orange, Gunnedah and the Hunter Valley to hear the latest on capabilities of the SentineX platform to provide continuous and remote monitoring.

Event sponsor, Advitech, presented insights into the interpretation of noise monitoring data whilst SKM shared project outcomes from a dust forecasting system.

Welcome to … Farrah Sin
Farrah joined Novecom in August as a Project Manager / Systems Engineer. Farrah has considerable experience in the simulation environment and has been progressing R&D projects for the enhancement of the SentineX product range.

HMA Finalist
Congratulations to Novecom, who were finalists at the 2011 Hunter Manufacturing Awards (HMA). Novecom entered the Excellence in Technology category, which recognised local manufacturers who have developed new technologies or applied existing technologies in novel ways.

“Sentinex has taken data acquisition and reporting to the next level, by offering a full web enabled real-time interface between a Sentinex system and any internet connected device in the world. The platform represents a leap forward from traditional data acquisition, using a customised software solution, embedded into commercial off the shelf hardware, which provides users with valuable information - when and where they need it”, said Novecom’s Manager Jeremy Pola. “We are proud to be runner up to Alminco, who won the Excellence in Technology category.”

News from The Advitech Group ...

Advitech’s lead engineer for risk and functional safety, Mike Taylor, recently completed the TÜV functional safety certification training course on machine safety. Mike has for some time held a similar qualification in safety instrumented systems.

Many industries, particularly mining, are requiring a functional safety approach to be taken with new equipment and major overhauls. This ensures ongoing safety and reliability across the industry.
